Let me just open with this: Murdered is not my favorite game. When I'm longing for some sort of comfort gaming experience; something that I can go back to to feel nostalgic and comfortable, it's not this one.
But, quality of the final product aside, Murdered is the tops. More specifically, the work I did at Airtight Games might actually be the apex of my game development experience.
I ran the design team, I worked directly with the Creative Director who was Japanese and didn't speak English particularly well for the first half of development, and I was the main "face" of the game. Then, after I wrapped on Murdered I developed game pitches trying to secure funding for another project.
As the main spokesperson for the game, Square-Enix flew me all over the place to show it off and give interviews with journalists.
During the E3 judges' week where reviewers get a sneak peek of what's going to be at the show that year, Murdered made its debut. I think we had about five interviews scheduled. Our marketing guy said it was going to be an easy night.
Then I gave my presentation. To say I killed might be an overstatement because no one called the cops, but after I finished the list of people who wanted to interview me got so long we ended up having to turn people away because they wanted to close the conference hall.
I went to London three times to show off the game. Once in an old house on the street where Jack the Ripper used to leave his victims. Did I mention that Murdered is about a serial killer?
This was another hard job, but I am proud as a new father of the work I did on it. I still hold it up as my greatest professional accomplishment, and hope I can reach that point again some day.
The video I've included below is a playthrough of the game. I've started it at the beginning of the first major investigation where Ronan attempts to reconstruct the moments leading up to his death. The investigations involved a lot of searching for evidence and finally piecing it all together in a final deduction mini-game. Take a look!
