I had already started taking classes in improv when I saw the posting that Unexpected Productions needed a lighting tech to join the team. I wanted to know everything I could about how improv worked, so it seemed like a natural fit for me.
Two months later I was doing lights for as many as eight shows a week at the theater, and even now that I don't live in Seattle any more it's something I'm always pursing.
I understand the DMX cabling standard, how to set up lighting systems, and I know my way around and mixing board as well. The way you set all of the technology up that makes a show possible is my favorite type of puzzle. There's nothing quite like connecting everything together, plugging it in, and seeing and hearing everything you expected to see in hear. Here's a couple of pictures of shows I've had my hand in.
